The Land Reform Cartoon
This cartoon points out that fact that 99% of the people in Britain live on 10% of the land,
with a few hundred living on over a quarter. (BBC documentary figures).
There has been Legal Educational, Parliamentary, Social Services, Health and many other reforms over the last 500 years.
There has never been any LAND reform.
Those few people get subsidies to keep the land to themselves while the rest of us have to live in pack-em-in-land.
Not being a socalist, I still think that it it plain wrong to tax 99% of the population to subsidize the few.
A blanket tax of, say, £1000 per acre or subdivision thereof would make these greedy landowners sell off land for
more productive use. This could be used to spread out dwellings rather than the current trick of parceling off tiny bits and
allocating them for housing. This squeezes houses into tiny lots squeezed next to the last tiny lot. With the government trucking
in another ten million people (one more for every six people living here now) the congestion and squallor can only get worse if
nothing is changed.
Permitting people to buy any number of acres and put only one house per acre would be a sounder use for land then rich people using
land to get unlimited free subsudues from taxpayers.
