A L I E N
QUEEN
model by HALCYON
HALCYON Model of ALIENS movie ALIEN QUEEN, Model was made of vinyl, was assembled using superglue,
and gaps filled with milliput, shaped when wet. Completed in acrylic paints from a pallet mix, not detailed exactly to the movie version.
then , when completly dry, painted with several layers of acrylic gloss clear, tinted with various blues.
HALCYON made a number of AILEN models, but do not appear to be an active company (2012).
Ebay often has models for sale or auction, though they fetch collector's prices if not assembled.
HALCYON vinyl models are very easy to make, but the modeler should clean the parts before assembly with a strong detergent to remove
any residual mould release agent, then wash with a lot of water , dry,
then clean again with white spirit to give a surface for the paint to adhere.
Enamel thinners are not recommended as thinners may soften the plastic, though the model can be pained in enamels if prefered, then painted enamel gloss varnish.
TAMYA model acrylics were used, but any make are suitable, the movie ALIEN queen looked wet, hence
I finished the model in several layers of gloss acrylic varnish washes in various tints of acrylic.
NOTE: Vinyl materal does not set. It will outgass chemicals that will casue other plastics to melt if left in contact for a long period, so it is best to wrap in
paper if the model is to be stored.
Approx 13 inches (30 cm ) tall. Unamade kits going at around £ 70
