The Models of PAUL CASS
These web-pages show pictures of plastic models made by Martin Macrae. These are from various kits, made of styrene, vinyl and resin, built over the last two decades. Many of the kits are no longer avalible and have become collectables. Unmade they would fetch a good price, but made and painted they become less valuable. I wanted to make and display them.

Some are 'garage' kits, Manufactured by Polar-Lights, HALCYON, Testors, Luna-models, Airfix etc. Vinyl models are usally painted in acrylics, and some need restoring as the paint tends to flake off the softer bendy parts. ID4 monster alien is injection moulded plastic, as is the Little Grey Alien.

The large HALCYON vinyl ALIENS QUEEN ALIEN Queen is now a very rare kit: Unmade and unpainted it would be a collectors item. I painted it in blues and colors like the movie. The large HALCYON ALIEN worker ALIENS QUEEN is painted more speculatively in greens and greys. Its transparent head is part of the kit and was the earliest Geiger head design. The second ALIENS move version had a solid head as shown by the small HALCYON ALIEN model which was made in injection moulded styrene.

The HALCYON power loader from ALIENS , is an injection-moulded polystyrene kit that is quite complex. the HALCYON box-cover however, can be used as reference for details. ALIENS powere loade in bits is ..ahem.. still in bits, having being trasnported all over the place. so it is on the list of Things to be Repaired. Ripley is still missing, somewhere in the loft in a box I think.

The Metaluna Monster is made from vinyl, Monster -picture was recently restored. gaps filled with model filler and repainted in acrylics. Again this would be a collectable kit if unmade and unpainted. This monster appeared in the 1953 film This Island Earth. The Independence Day movie ALIEN is a HALCYON injection moulded model, painted in enamels, with a green-yellow hue.

Both 'The Robot' from Lost in Space (The Irwin Allen television series' , and Robby The Robot from Forbiden Planet are injection moulded kits by Polar Lights, painted in the correct colours.
The ALIEN Narcissus ship is a HALCYON injection moulded kit, This was very simple to build and paint. I think it is still for sale on some websites, though the manufacturer HALCYON seems to have disappeared.
The GEMINI II 'flying saucer' shaped spacecraft from Lost in Space The Irwin Allen television series of the 1960's is a limited edition version plated in chrome. This was put together with styrene adhesive, and unpainted. Due for re-working in more-accurate silver with painted interior.

Aircraft include the 1/72 North American XB-70A model from Mincraft , as it is futuristic enough to appear here.

The 2001 A Space Odeyssey movie Discovery model pictures were taken before the model was dissmantled and stripped of paint. This is the best of the Luna-Models versions that were made in the 1990's (Garage Kit, not avilable today). Plan to rebuild in the near future, aligning the modules correctly and making a new spine. The HALCYON predator kit was not started, so it is for sale on the web-page:

Models are photographed against a black felt background with a NIKON P80 digital camera on a tripod. using 2sec time to reduce vibrations and camer movement when pressing the shutter. underexposed two stops to make the background disappear in some cases. GIMP software used to reduce size and width to fit a web-page. ins some places, stars added uisng GIMP paint. This method worked really well for most of the models, especially the ALIENS Narcissus shuttle.
